Application: Creating a Power Island – Microgrid -EV Charging and Solar PV Energy Management Tracking
San Jacinto High School gymnasium does double duty as an evacuation center for people affected by wildfires or power outages in the nearby communities of Hemet, Idyllwild and Beaumont. During an emergency, the school’s gym becomes a Red Cross shelter. There is room for 200 cots on the gym floor or 2,700 people in the bleachers. The school already had solar panels to generate power, and Tesla batteries to store the power which could provide 85% of the energy the campus uses every day. But during a power outage, it was not much help because the school would draw more power than the system could provide.
Decision: The solution was to create a power island / microgrid. The utility re-routed the existing circuitry so that the energy from the solar planes and Tesla batteries could directly power the gym. Agave® was asked by Wildan and Tesla to engage and assist with the integration of technologies.

Results:
• Isolated resilient Power to operate the gym
• Reduced operational cost by using onsite generation
• Ability to serve the community by providing a resilient facility, with available air conditioning and commissary services for emergency victims.
